For me, having a good skin, white teeth, clean hair with good cut and styling, nice body odor, by all means -you're perfectly groomed, your outer appearance will change a lot. I mean, no matter how expensive the bag that you carry, the clothes that you wear, if your teeth are yellow, your skin is dry -and look dull, and most importantly you have a really bad body odor (aka u stink) isn't it such a waste -and ironic?
Before I started writing about 'finding your own signature scent', I want to share something with all of you. Since puberty hit me, I consider myself as a lucky girl. I didnt have any problems with my skin -especially the face area. I didnt have acne throughout junior high school until college. Only one problem, my skin is really dry -but that was resolved when I found a really good body lotion for it. I can use any make up brands that I want, change from one to another, same thing with face cleanser, toner, etc. But then one year ago, something happened. It has been like 6 months since I started working and yes, to be quite honest with you I gained weight - a lot. Maybe it was my food choices (more fat inside the body), lack of exercise (and the fat are not going anywhere sister!), I have no idea what were the causes but I started having acne. It's like a late puberty! I started having acne on my face, and I kept on changing my cleansers, moisturized more, exfoliate faithfully, nothing worked. Then I moved to Seoul early this year, and slowly.. all of them disappeared, then I went back to Jakarta, the acne showed up again! Is it because of the polluted air in Jakarta? I guess that's probably one of the reasons why.
So since then I've been using the same cleanser, toner, exfoliator for my face. It's very... difficult more like scary for me now to change my whole regime. I mean like I dont want to fuck up my face again. What I'm saying is, it's very important for us to groom ourselves. Have the perfect skin, bright-clean face, white teeth, silky smooth hair, and lovely body odor.
Okay so, finding the perfect perfume is not as easy as it sounds. You can buy as many as perfumes that you want, put all the bottles on the table like there's no tomorrow. But at least for me, it's very hard. I really like something fresh and fruity. I don't like something very sweet -like vanilla. One of my favorite perfume is from Marc Jacobs - Daisy. BUT unfortunately, MJ Daisy scent does not mix well with my body odor. The scent doesn't stay for a very long time on my skin -but on the contrary when my mom use it, she smells great for one whole day. So I moved on to Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. I've been using both the eau de parfum and eau de toilette faithfully. I really like it and whoever says Chanel No. 5 is the ultimate perfume or so whatever, omylord it doesnt smell good at all. Anyways, sticking to one scent is not enough, I found a new one. Chanel Chance eau tendre (the pink one). I really really like it, my sister introduced me to the perfume and I'm so glad I decided to get one.
After few months, I wanted a new one. But I decided to get it from a brand that exclusively makes perfume - not a luxury fashion brand. I sniffed more than 20 perfumes in 1 week I think. My friend introduced me to Le Labo. I smelled each one of them and this particular smell - Bergamote 22 - caught my...nose. LOL. Bergamote 22 contains ".. delicate floral character of petit grain, the bitterness of grapefruit, as well as the flamboyant sweetness of amber and musk with a viril touch of vetiver". I asked the SA to spray it on the paper and I brought it home. The next day I smelled the paper again I still like it. I think it's very important for you to test it first. Are you still going to like the smell after few hours? If yes, then it passed level one. After that I went back again there and asked the SA to spray it on my wrist (to check whether the perfume works or not with your skin and body odor) and I went around- after 3 hours, I still could smell it.. so ding ding ding SOLD!
Whoops, that's a long post, anyways... My advice, just because the bottle is cute or pretty.. Don't rush it. Take your time finding the perfect perfume. I feel like it's okay to splurge yourself on grooming. So yes, take your time browsing, smelling, and I hope you can find your signature scent.
And so I'm thinking about getting the travel size, and a possible body oils... More about Le Labo here.
